New York RIPS

I worked as a site monitor for my last job, which required I travel all over the city inspecting agencies that fed the poor and homeless. I was out of the office 4 days a week trooping all over the city, taking buses and trains, and the rest on foot. Aside from interviewing and inspecting records, I was to take pictures of the facilities. For that I was provided a digital camera, and when I got tired of taking graffitti pictures all over the outer bouroughs, I began to snap the RIP walls. Aside from providing a chill reminder of what looms for us all, it also represents street art a world away from what's out there, ie graff, and "street" art. With that said, RIP to those who past.

Death of Krylon

The "Old" cans

"New Cans"
Wal-Mart, Reading, PA November 2008
It was true. What my friend had told me a few weeks ago, that Krylon was no longer using its regular caps, really did happen. I happened to stop by Wal-Mart, where I always used to get Krylons for the magical price of $2.97, and they had new colors and new looking cans with dildo shaped tops. These new cans had the male caps making them useless. Damn. I have never been one to paint with Montana or the other fancy paints, so I took a big hit. Liking to paint clean, Krylon always worked for me with the grey german skinnys. They had a few remaining "old" cans. I grabbed 12 of them and made my way out the walmart. Goodbye Krylon.

Two Fish Wish

Small Mouth Bass (Micropterus dolomieui)
Poconos, PA - Summer 2008
On my only trip out of the BK this summer, a whopping three days, I came across this. Two fish on one hook. That MY one hook. Look, not one fish, but two fish. One fish, two fish. Two fish wish for this ish. Bout it bout it. Damn, I'm good. If we were all cavemen, I'd be king.

Smashandgrab gets BOPPED!

34 St Herald Square Station, NY NY
One cold and rainy afternoon I decided to take the train rather than ride my bike after work. It was full of 5pm rush hours so I thought I could be slick and just pass through the door. I waited and observed. Then, I see a woman passing through the door with a baby stroller. I quitely sneak behind her, stopping the door before it locked behind her. I was in, I was in. 15 steps later, someone grabs my arm. Cops. The rest is apparent. Watch out though, cause fare evasion now costs you $100.

Conney Boombox

Conney Island- Summer 2008
The good old days of conney island will be much missed. Gone are the days when people could walk around freely with their boxes blaring classic soul without a care in the world. Without astroland, who knows what the future has a stake. Where will this dude go, that I snapped, go when the curtain closes? Bushwick?

Sleeping on Hewes

Hewes- JM Train- Brooklyn, NY
Having to be at the job early, I encountered this at 7:30am on a Wednesday. He just laid there while people stepped over him into the turnstile. The booth attendant in the meantime was reading the paper oblivious to the motionless man.

Arrest!

149th St. Grand Concourse Bronx
This one made me sad. It was a black woman getting arrested with tears running down her eyes and a desperate look of fear in her face. Kind of shitty thing to see in the middle of your work day.

Good Bye Coney Island

smashandgrab with crew. Coney Island Beach, Summer, 1982
Yeah, its true. The fun is over, and yet another part of what made New York cool is gone, to the condoes and unaffordable rides that the "new" so called amusement park will provide. In its place we'll get the same "modern" condoes that we see everywhere and I imagine a sprinkle of Times Square dazzle for those that can afford it. Hey, if we are luckly they will privatize the beach and begin to charge admission. It was fun while it lasted, and I eventually did get my chance to catch some flics, soon to be posted. Goodbye ASTROLAND.

Slim Pickings

Broadway- Brooklyn September 2008
Not much to write home about these days. Not that I haven't been out and about, its just that I haven't seen much. Did see a pretty hectic car accident this week, but the cabbie that crashed, alomost ran me over on my bike. I yelled at him and left, to heated to snap pics. I do what I can. As for this, another dead rat. Passed by it today, and the rat was gone but the rest of the trash was still there. Weird.
